Our experienced dentists and staff are experts in cosmetic dentistry procedures, including professional laser teeth whitening and bleaching. We always put your satisfaction first and have been recognized as a Patient’s Choice Winner on Opencare. Visit us to receive the best laser teeth whitening in NYC and Queens today!

What is Zoom! Laser Teeth Whitening?

As used on the hit TV Show – Extreme Makeovers, we use the Zoom! Teeth Whitening system. A translucent bleaching gel is applied to the teeth and a laser light is used to activate the crystals to absorb the energy from the light and penetrate the teeth enamel to increase the whitening effect on the teeth. With only a 90-minute in-office procedure, patients can whiten their teeth on an average 2-6 shades lighter while relaxing and listening to music in a spa-like setting.

Remove Discoloration With Professional Laser Teeth Whitening & Bleaching

Teeth stains are a common factor that can lead to dull, unattractive smiles. While stores are brimming with whitening toothpaste and strips, these over-the-counter options rarely offer the same level of whitening as a professional teeth whitening system. At Central Avenue Dental, our dentists can brighten your smile with the professional Zoom! laser teeth whitening system in Queens and NYC.

What Causes Teeth Discoloration?

Why do our teeth develop unsightly stains? There are a variety of factors behind discoloration, including:

  •  Smoking or tobacco use
  •  Drinks with dark pigments (coffee, tea, soda, or red wine)
  •  Plaque buildup
  •  Age
  •  Illness
  •  Certain medications
  •  Trauma

Before recommending a cosmetic solution to your discoloration we may first examine your teeth. We will identify the causes and severity of your teeth stains, deciding which of our cosmetic treatments will best address the issue.

Zoom! Whitening

With Zoom! professional teeth whitening, we can often brighten teeth by between two and six shades, all in as little as an hour and a half. First, our laser teeth whitening dentists place a protective covering over your lips and gums. We then apply the powerful teeth bleaching gel. The gel’s ingredients are activated with the use of a curing light. At this stage, the bleaching ingredients enter the enamel and begin removing discoloration. Soon, you can receive more dramatic results than would be possible with over-the-counter teeth whitening solutions.

How Do I Keep My Smile Bright

Once we’ve removed your teeth stains with the Zoom! laser teeth whitening system, you’re probably wondering what you can do to keep your teeth bright and beautiful. There are actually a few simple steps you can take to reduce the severity of future stains and help your smile remain bright for longer.

Our dentists recommend:

  •  Brushing your teeth twice a day
  •  Always flossing before going to bed
  •  Having your teeth professionally cleaned twice a year
  •  Cutting back on sodas with dark pigments
  •  Eating healthier snacks with a lower sugar content, such as fruit, vegetables, nuts, or low-fat yogurt

Not only will these steps help you hold on to your new smile, but you can actually improve your overall oral health, reducing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Remember, a beautiful smile is often an indicator of a healthy one.

Porcelain Veneers: Transforming Your Smile in Valley Stream And NYC

Do you have teeth that suffer from a wide array of aesthetic issues, such as stained teeth or even damaged/misshapen teeth? You might believe that improving the appearance of your smile will require multiple office visits and an array of treatments, but that’s not true.

At Central Avenue Dental in Manhattan and Valley Stream, our dentists can use porcelain veneers and teeth lamination to completely transform your smile in as little as two visits with a single cosmetic procedure. Find out how dental veneers can help you achieve the stunning results you deserve.

Porcelain veneers are routinely used to cover teeth that are discolored, worn, chipped, or misaligned. Porcelain veneers, often alternatively termed dental veneers or teeth lamination, are wafer-thin shells of porcelain that are bonded onto the front side of teeth in order to cosmetically improve their appearance. Typically, porcelain veneers are difficult to stain, making veneers a very popular solution for many people seeking that perfect smile. Strong and very durable, dental veneers should last from ten to fifteen years, and come in colors that will brighten dark teeth without the worry of them changing color. Teeth lamination is typically done in only two office visits and can actually strengthen your teeth.

What Can Dental Veneers / Teeth Lamination Address?

Laminates for teeth are used to address a number of both cosmetic and restorative issues, including:

  •  Gaps between teeth
  •  Chipped or broken teeth
  •  Misshapen or worn down teeth
  •  Stained teeth
  •  The appearance of minor misalignment

If you have any questions about what aesthetic problems we can correct with a restoration, then please contact our office. We can examine your teeth to see what the best choice is for improving the function and beauty of your smile, whether it’s dental veneers/teeth lamination or another procedure.

How Do Porcelain Veneers Work?

A dental veneer is a thin shell of porcelain material that we place over the teeth in the front of the mouth. They adhere to the surface, instantly altering the appearance of the teeth. We can use teeth lamination to treat a number of issues or repair minor damage to the teeth. Caring for your restoration simply requires routine oral healthcare, including:

  •  Brushing your teeth twice a day
  •  Flossing once a day
  •  Having the dentist examine your teeth twice a year via regular checkups and dental cleanings

Good oral hygiene not only protects your new restoration but can also improve your overall dental health as well.

What Does Porcelain Veneer Placement Involve?

The teeth lamination procedure will begin with preparation. To prepare the teeth we will need to remove a very thin layer of enamel. Doing so leaves room for the completed veneer. We then take impressions of your teeth.

At a dental lab, an expert ceramist uses the impression to design and fabricate the laminates. Once complete, you return for your second visit. The doctor must then check the fit and make any further adjustments. The veneer will be bonded to the tooth with a powerful adhesive material.

If you have any questions about dental veneers/teeth lamination or would like to schedule a consultation with Dr. Igor Ilyabayev and Dr. Alevtina Edgar, please contact our Valley Stream, Queens office at (516) 887-0020 or our Tribeca, Manhattan office at (212) 571-0033.

Invisalign® Braces

Central Avenue Dental is one of New York’s premier dental practices, with convenient locations in Tribeca, Manhattan and Valley Stream, Queens. Our experienced dentists and staff are experts in cosmetic dentistry procedures, including Invisalign®. Dr. Alevtina Edgar and Dr. Igor Ilyabayev are both certified in Invisalign® treatment and members of the American Dental Association and New York State Dental Association. Furthermore, we always put your satisfaction first and have been recognized as a Patient’s Choice Winner on Opencare.

Do you have misalignment? Uneven teeth can hurt both the appearance and overall health of your smile. However, few people are eager to sign up for a year to two years of wearing metal orthodontics. In order to offer smile correction without relying on metal braces, we can provide Invisalign®, also known as invisible braces. We offer this braces alternative, Invisalign®, at our NYC and Valley Stream practices.

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is the invisible way to straighten teeth without braces. Using advanced 3-D computer imaging technology to project tooth movement, Invisalign® creates a series of clear, custom-made aligners (repositioners) that gradually move your teeth. You wear each aligner for about 2 weeks, moving to the next set until the goals you agreed upon with your dentist are reached.

Traditional braces require brackets to be attached to the front of the teeth. An archwire connects the brackets and the dentist or orthodontist uses tension to reposition the teeth. With Invisalign®, a series of clear plastic aligners will be worn daily to move the teeth to a more optimal placement. With invisible aligners, patients can experience a number of benefits, including:

  •  The ability to eat all your favorite foods
  •  Barely noticeable orthodontics
  •  Easier brushing and flossing
  •  Less tooth sensitivity or gum/cheek irritation
  •  A shorter treatment time
  •  Fewer office visits
  •  A blue dot on the aligners that wears away with time, allowing parents to make sure their teens are wearing the aligners properly

How Does Invisalign® Work?

First, our Invisalign® dentists take impressions and photographs of your teeth. We send these materials, along with any specifications from the doctor, to an Invisalign® lab. There, experts create your aligners. Each day you wear them for between 20 and 23 hours, only removing them for special occasions before meals.

Approximately every two weeks you will upgrade to a new set. The entire Invisalign® treatment periods takes about a year for adults and up to 18 months for teens. In all, patients of Central Avenue Dental in NYC & Valley Stream can expect a practically invisible, comfortable, and convenient orthodontic treatment system.

Can Anyone Wear Invisible Aligners?

While many people will be viable candidates, not everyone can wear Invisalign®. If you have severe malocclusion, braces or another orthodontic solution may be best. Typically, we recommend Invisalign® for patients over the age of 16 who have minor alignment issues.

To see if Invisalign® is the best option for your smile, we will need to assess the cause and severity of your misalignment. We can also answer any questions or address any concerns you may have about treatment.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule a consultation with our Invisalign® dentists Dr. Igor Ilyabayev and Dr. Alevtina Edgar, please contact our Valley Stream, Queens office at (516) 887-0020 or our Tribeca, Manhattan office at (212) 571-0033.

Braces Botox® / Fillers / Voluma®

If you’re looking to not only transform your smile but also your entire face, you may want to consider getting Botox®, dermal fillers, or Voluma® at Central Avenue Dental in NYC. Our experienced cosmetic dentists can help restore your youth by smoothing out pesky lines and wrinkles. Schedule an appointment online, or learn more about Central Avenue Dental and our cosmetic treatments below.

Central Avenue Dental is one of New York’s premier dental practices, with convenient locations in Financial District, NYC and Valley Stream, Queens. Our experienced dentists and staff are experts in cosmetic dentistry procedures, including Botox®, dermal fillers, and Voluma®. Dr. Alevtina Edgar and Dr. Igor Ilyabayev are both members of the American Dental Association and New York State Dental Association and work with Dr. Ellen Edgar, an American Board-Certified Neurologist. We always put your satisfaction first and have been recognized as a Patient’s Choice Winner on Opencare.

What Are Botox®, Fillers, and Voluma®?

The highly experienced dentists at Central Avenue Dental are—besides being expert dentists—also at the cutting edge of one of the newest developments in cosmetic dentistry: helping to restore and enhance the entire look of the face once the work on the teeth is completed. Certain dental conditions can cause a lot of pain, which in turn causes unattractive and eventually permanent lines and wrinkles. Good dental work will fix the teeth, but cannot address the damage that may have occurred to the entire face. Botox®, dermal fillers, and Voluma® help address the facial issues from our offices in NYC.

What Are the Benefits of Botox®, Dermal Fillers, and Voluma® in Dentistry?

Along with or after your dental work:

  •  Your dental issues may have affected the way your face looks
  •  The dental office can provide, along with dental work, suggestions to help
  •  Botox®, dermal fillers, and Voluma® can offer a more attractive look along with your new smile
  •  You do not need to go to another specialist to have this kind of work done
  •  You might not be aware of the dramatic difference that a little Botox® or filler can do

Your trusted dentists and their expert facial cosmetic associate, who is a board-certified neurologist, are in a position to provide Botox® and other cosmetic services because they are all too aware of exactly where your face is affected and what the best treatment is.

What Can I Expect If I Get Botox®, Dermal Fillers, or Voluma®?

  •  Your specialist will discuss with you exactly where your lines and wrinkles are most prominent
  •  You will be the one to decide how much or how little treatment you want
  •  You do not need to go to a special surgery center
  •  The time you will need to set aside is usually just an hour or two for most Botox®, dermal fillers, and Voluma® treatments
  •  Your skin will be cleaned of any make-up or dirt, and the injection(s) done along the wrinkle line
  •  First, your specialist might offer an anesthetic so you won’t feel any pain
  •  The filler is injected by needle and is typically brief, like a series of tiny shots
  •  The area that receives filler may feel a little sore for a day or two
  •  The area that gets filler may feel a little “stiff” or look a little swollen, but that will fade
  •  You can expect to be amazed at how much younger you look and feel!

Advanced Dentistry

Dental / Teeth Implants

Central Avenue Dental is one of New York’s premier dental practices, with convenient locations in Tribeca, NYC and Valley Stream, Queens. Our experienced dentists and staff are experts in advanced dentistry treatments, including dental implants to restore lost teeth. Furthermore, Dr. Alevtina Edgar and Dr. Igor Ilyabayev are both members of the American Dental Association and New York State Dental Association. We always put your satisfaction first and have been recognized as a Patient’s Choice Winner on Opencare. Visit the best dental implant dentists in NYC and Long Island today.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small prosthetic posts that are placed into the bone of the upper or lower jaw. They act as replacements for the root portion of lost natural teeth and also serve as an anchor for replacement teeth. Dental implants look and feel exactly like natural teeth — in fact, no one (other than maybe our dentists) will be able to tell the difference. Dental implants are appropriate for almost anyone who is currently missing teeth or is at risk of losing teeth.

Unlike dental bridges or removable dentures, a dental implant can actually replace every part of a missing tooth, down to the root. First, a titanium post, which is biocompatible, is surgically inserted into the jawbone. Through the process of osseointegration, the bone bonds with the post. Once the area heals we can place an abutment on the post that holds a restoration in place. We typically use dental crowns to restore single-tooth prosthetics. We can also multiple dental implant posts to support a full set of dentures.

What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

Teeth implants offer a number of benefits, including:

  •  Lifelike tooth replacement
  •  Long lasting replacement (up to 25 years)
  •  Prevents loss of jawbone density
  •  Avoids misalignment due to tooth loss
  •  Allows you to speak and eat normally
  •  Requires the same simple maintenance as your natural teeth

If you choose to use teeth implants to support a set of dentures, then you can enjoy a fixed prosthetic that won’t slip when eating or speaking. You won’t need suction or adhesives to hold them in place. In addition, implant-supported dentures will require fewer adjustments and will last longer than traditional dentures.

Who can Receive a Dental Implant?

Anyone who is missing one or more teeth may be a viable candidate for teeth implants. However, you will need to have gums free of periodontal disease. Gum disease can not only cause adult tooth loss but implant failure as well. In addition, the patient needs to have a certain amount of jawbone tissue in order to support the new tooth.

If not, then we may recommend a bone grafting before proceeding. We can examine your teeth and jaw to see if this is the best option for restoring your smile to optimal health and function.

If you have any questions about dental implants or would like to schedule a consultation with Dr. Igor Ilyabayev and Dr. Alevtina Edgar, please contact our Valley Stream, Queens office at (516) 887-0020 or our Tribeca, Manhattan office at (212) 571-0033.

Denture Implants

Do you suffer from advanced tooth loss? Losing most or all of your teeth can hurt your overall health, leading to an aged appearance and limiting your nutritional intake. Fortunately, with a dental prosthetic, you can once again enjoy a full smile. For added security and a longer lasting tooth replacement, we offer full denture implants (permanent dentures) at our NYC dental practice. Schedule a denture implant appointment today or learn more about permanent dentures and Central Avenue Dental below.

Central Avenue Dental is one of New York’s premier dental practices, with convenient locations in Tribeca, Manhattan and Valley Stream, Queens. Our experienced dentists and staff are experts in advanced dentistry treatments, including denture implants to restore advanced tooth loss.

Our dentists specialize in providing full denture implants, otherwise known as permanent dentures. Furthermore, Dr. Alevtina Edgar and Dr. Igor Ilyabayev are both members of the American Dental Association and New York State Dental Association. We always put your satisfaction first and have been recognized as a Patient’s Choice Winner on Opencare. Don’t live without a complete smile – contact us today.

What are Denture Implants?

Most dentures are removable, meaning they require removal for cleaning. When worn, they are held in place with natural suction, or adhesive, or a combination of the two. However, with implant-supported dentures, six to eight titanium implant posts will be inserted into each arch. After taking impressions, our dentists will create a full set of dentures consisting of replacement teeth in an acrylic base, designed to mimic natural gum tissue. The prosthetic then snaps onto the posts, providing a fixed alternative to traditional full or complete prosthetics. It is now possible to have the stable, secure and comfortable dentures you never thought possible.

What are the Advantages of Denture Implants?

Supporting denture implants with multiple posts can offer a number of advantages to traditional removable versions, including:

  •  No slipping during meals or when talking
  •  No need for adhesives
  •  Fewer adjustments
  •  The ability to eat as you did before losing your teeth
  •  Natural looking and comfortable tooth replacement

Another major benefit of denture implants is the prevention of jawbone deterioration. When you lose multiple teeth the body no longer provides the surrounding jawbone with doses of calcium or phosphorus. Without these nutrients, the jawbone dissolves. Not only can you lose additional teeth, but you may also develop a significantly older appearance. However, the body recognizes the titanium posts in permanent dentures as natural tooth roots and continues the supply of nutrients, preserving your facial features.

Can Anyone Enjoy Permanent Dentures?

Before you can receive full denture implants, our local implant dentists need to assess the health of your smile. If you have gum disease, for example, you may run the risk of implant failure. In addition, if you have lost a serious amount of jawbone tissue, you may need a bone grafting done before receiving a fixed prosthetic. We will discuss your options and if necessary, recommend alternatives for replacing lost teeth. Don’t live with a less than complete smile, talk to our experienced dentists about your options for restoring missing teeth.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule a denture implant consultation with Dr. Igor Ilyabayev and Dr. Alevtina Edgar, please contact the Valley Stream, Queens office at (516) 887-0020 or the Tribeca, Manhattan office at (212) 571-0033.

Mouth Guards

Central Avenue Dental is one of New York’s premier dental practices, with convenient locations in Financial District and Valley Stream. Our experienced dentists and staff are experts in advanced dentistry treatments, including night guards and sports mouth guards to protect your teeth and prevent teeth grinding. Furthermore, Dr. Alevtina Edgar and Dr. Igor Ilyabayev are both members of the American Dental Association and New York State Dental Association. We always put your satisfaction first and have been recognized as a Patient’s Choice Winner on Opencare. Visit us today!

What Is An Occlusal Night Guard?

An occlusal night guard is a form-fitting mouth guard made of hard acrylic plastic to protect your teeth while you sleep. The purpose of the night guard is to prevent damage to the teeth from grinding, called bruxism. Although cheaper night guards are advertised, it’s important to get a proper fit from a dentist because:

  •  Grinding and clenching teeth happens at night when you don’t know it
  •  There is no way to stop grinding and clenching
  •  Grinding and clenching damage the surface and ends of the teeth
  •  An ill-fitting night guard may hurt or may not help
  •  A night guard can absorb the grinding and clenching force
  •  A guard can protect the teeth from further damage
  •  Even teeth that are implants or crowns or bridges can be protected

What Are Sports Guards For?

Studies show that athletes are sixty times more likely to suffer harm to the teeth if they’re not wearing a mouth guard.

When you or your child is playing just about any sport or doing recreational activities, it’s critical to wear a sports guard to:

  •  Minimize the risk of broken teeth
  •  Protect the lips and tongue
  •  Help cushion a blow to the face
  •  Avoid damage to the jaw
  •  Protect the soft tissues of the cheek lining and inside the lips

In sports, a mouth guard is as essential a piece of equipment as any other protective gear. Contact sports require mouth guards, but other sports and recreational activities can be dangerous too:

  •  Football, hockey, and boxing (required)
  •  Wrestling, rugby
  •  Gymnastics, skating
  •  Baseball, softball, fencing, lacrosse
  •  Skateboarding, hoverboarding

A sports guard should cover your teeth including your gums. Sports guards are made of a softer material than night guards. There are several types of mouth guards available: inexpensive stock mouth guards, “boil and bite” mouth guards, and custom fit mouth guards. Only a custom fit mouth guard will be comfortable, fit your mouth perfectly, and be more likely to not come out when the head is jostled or when a fall happens. Custom fit mouth guards are critical for children and adults:

  •  With upper braces
  •  With lower-teeth braces
  •  With a fixed dental appliance, such as a retainer
  •  With dental bridgework
  •  Who care about their teeth

What Can I Expect at the Dentist’s Office?

  •  At a regular visit, the dentist will make an impression of your teeth
  •  The impression hardens and is sent to a lab
  •  The guard fits your teeth exactly and is only for you
  •  The dentist and he will ensure that the guard fits correctly
  •  You can always return to your dentist if you have problems with your sports guard

If you’re suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and unable to get a good night’s sleep, Central Avenue Dental has the solution. Our NYC sleep apnea dentists provide the best non-invasive oral appliances to treat sleep apnea. Schedule a consultation today or learn more below.

Dr. Alevtina Edgar and Dr. Igor Ilyabayev are both certified in Obstructive Sleep Apnea treatment and members of the American Dental Association and New York State Dental Association. Sleep Apnea: Rest Easier with a Comfortable Treatment Option

Estimates reveal that anywhere between 18 and 22 million people in the United States suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, or OSA. If you experience the symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea, then you may have trouble feeling rested and ready for the day, even after what you assume was a full night’s rest.

Fortunately, our sleep apnea dentists can identify the symptoms and recommend a comfortable, effective, and non-invasive sleep apnea treatment option.

What Causes Sleep Apnea?

During sleep, the soft tissue in the back of the mouth and throat may become overly relaxed and collapse, obstructing airflow. The patient stops breathing as a result until the brain registers the lack of oxygen and wakes him/her up to begin breathing.

Despite having no memory of waking up, patients often wake hundreds of times in a single night. In addition to the initial exhaustion, the long-term consequences of sleep apnea may include elevated blood pressure and an increased risk of heart attack, depression, and stroke.

How Do I Know If I Need Sleep Apnea Treatment?

Patients may encounter a number of symptoms if they suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, including:

  •  Chronic snoring
  •  Waking up choking or possibly gasping for air
  •  Exhaustion during the day
  •  Trouble focusing at work or school
  •  Irritability

Sleep apnea can also have adverse effects on your oral and dental health, causing teeth grinding, dry mouth, tooth decay, and tooth loss.

If you frequently snore or experience any of the common sleep apnea symptoms then we recommend visiting one of our sleep apnea dentists in NYC for a diagnosis. Often, the symptoms can be eased with a few changes to your daily life, such as:

  •  Losing weight
  •  Avoiding caffeine or alcohol before bed
  •  Sleeping on your side
  •  Maintaining a regular sleep schedule
  •  Keeping your bedroom dark and cool

Otherwise, you may benefit from a sleep apnea oral appliance.

How Does the Sleep Apnea Oral Appliance Work?

Our dental sleep medicine specialists will first need to examine you, assess your medical history, and the severity of your sleep apnea issues. We can then recommend the most appropriate sleep apnea treatment, which typically involves an oral appliance.

The oral appliance will look similar to a night guard but is actually much more complex. The patient wears the device at night while sleeping. The sleep apnea mouthpiece moves the jaw forward, in the process keeping the airways open and preventing the collapse of soft tissue. The patient can then breathe unencumbered and experience a significant reduction in sleep apnea symptoms.
